History
origin
The Dallas Cowboys joined the National Football League as an expansion team in 1960. It was quite a struggle to get them in because many opposed the idea of a new team. Especially the Washington Redskins owner at the time, George Preston Marshall. George and the Redskins had enjoyed being the only team in the American South. It didn't surprise owners Clint Murchison and Bedford Wynne, so to make sure that they got the team that they wanted they had to play dirty. The men bought the rights to the song "Hail to the Redskins" and threatened not to let them play the song at any of their games. Soon after Marshall changed his mind and a new team was born on January 28, 1960. When this happened it triggered one of the best rivalries in the NFL between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins which still continues till this day. The team was originally named The Dallas Steers, then The Dallas Rangers, but there was too much confusion because there was a baseball team called The Dallas Rangers. Finally, they were called The Dallas Cowboys. Many people invested in the team, this includes: Clint Murchison Jr and John D. Murchison were the main investors. Tex Schramm was hired as general manager, and Tom Landry was hired as head coach.
